FMR appointed to Ford Site Open Space Workgroup
Although future land use on the Ford site has not been determined, it is very possible that a significant new addition to St. Paul's riverfront parks can be part of the redevelopment plan.

Friends of the Mississippi River has been appointed to participate in a working group to explore the potential of an expanded open space and park vision for the 125-acre Ford Motor Company site in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood.
Ford announced its intention to close the plant in 2011 and the city is actively working to craft a re-development strategy. The site includes a 22-acre parcel owned by Ford that lies between the river and Mississippi River Boulevard adjacent to Hidden Falls Regional Park to the south and the Mississippi River Gorge Regional Park to the north.
Although future land use on the site has not been determined it is very possible that a significant new addition to Saint Paul's riverfront parks can be part of the redevelopment plan. The working group will explore recreation demands as well as open space funding strategies and will produce a guidebook to inform the process going forward. The workgroup is expected to complete its work by January 2011.
